Jay Apt on Carbon and Climate Issues

Jay Apt
Jay Apt, Executive Director of Carnegie Mellon Electricity Industry Center, Associate Research Professor, Distinguished Service Professor in Engineering and Public Policy

"When CO2 is emitted much of it lasts in the atmosphere for ~ 100 years. Thus, stablilzing atmospheric concentrations of CO2 will require the world to reduce emissions by at least 80%"

Jay Apt, Executive Director of Carnegie Mellon Electricity Industry Center, Associate Research Professor and Distinguished Service Professor in Engineering and Public Policy, discusses carbon and climate issues to a group of Philadelphia alumni.

Apt addresses five questions.

  • What is the basic science behind the issue of climate change?
  • Isn't there enormous uncertainty about climate change?
  • What impacts can we expect to see from climate change?
  • What can we do to reduce climate change and minimize its adverse impacts?
  • Can we afford to do anything?
