Marvin Goodfriend on Monetary Policy Issues in Asia (Reunion 2007)

Reunion 07 Goodfrfiend 100
Tepper Alumni Reunion 2007 with Marvin Goodfriend

"The U.S. is coming off a period of 50 years of preeminence of the world economy that hadn't been seen in world history. There's no way we could have remained at that precipice. And it's very hard for a country to come off a period like that and sustain self-confidence."

Marvin Goodfriend, Professior of Financial Economics and Chairman of The Gailliot Center for Public Policy, provided an overview of monetary policy in East Asia during Alumni Reunion Weekend 2007.

In this video, Dr. Goodfriend addresses current major issues in the East Asian economies. With focus on flaws in the banking and equities system, and interest rate regulation, Goodfriend proposes possible solutions and details the effects of the proposed solutions versus the systems and operations currently in place. These changes include flexible interest rates, an East Asian Monetary Fund and ground-up changes to the banking system.
