Is this the same weekend as Carnegie Mellon's Carnival and Reunion Weekend?
Yes. Spring Carnival and Reunion Weekend 2011 will be observed April 14-16. It will be an exciting time for all Carnegie Mellon alumni returning to campus. Remember the buggy races? For more information, go to http://www.cmu.edu/alumni/involved/events/carnival/
What types of activities are available for children?
Carnegie Mellon's campus is located in the heart of Oakland and Squirrel Hill. There are a variety of opportunities for casual family excursions. Here are some ideas:
A playground and park are a short distance away in Schenley Park.
The Phipps Conservatory is within walking distance and is open for tours.
The Carnegie Museum offers great family activities and exhibits current in the Scaiffe Gallery of the Museum of Art, Dinosaur Hall in the Museum of Natural History, as well as other displays. The museum is within walking distance.
The Nationality Rooms at the Cathedral of Learning, University of Pittsburgh.
For older children, a visit to the Frick Art and Historical Center in Point Breeze offers tours of "Clayton," Henry Frick's exquisite Victorian era mansion, as well as an antique car museum and art museum.
Southside Works is full of shops, restaurants and fun things to do.
Ducky Tours for a scenic trip around the city and surrounding communities.
Segway Tours are also available for those who can stand, walk a little and have use of both hands.
At the reunion dinner, a children's room with certified child care staff will be available at the Heinz History Center for children of Tepper alumni, infants to age 11, at a minimal charge. A special children's dinner will be provided along with games and DVD's. Alumni are asked to register their children in advance for the service.
What air transportation is available?
Tzell is the recommended travel agency used by the university. Please call 800-466-7801 and mention that you are calling for the Tepper School of Business Reunion. Tzell's personal travel assistance rate is $25.
What local transportation is available?
Public transportation is available with PAT (Port Authority Transit) throughout the city. Bus schedules are available at the UC.
What's the appropriate attire?
Reunion time is a time to relax among friends and celebrate. It is a generally casual weekend, however, most alumni choose to dress-up for the special Saturday evening Alumni Reunion Dinner. The average temperature in Pittsburgh in the month of April is 61 degrees and we advise you to dress appropriately.
Are children welcome?
Children are welcome to attend the Friday evening B**rs event, under the supervision of their parents.
