Student Event Sponsorship

MBA and MSCF Student Case Competition and Event Sponsorship

The Corporate Associates program provides an opportunity for sponsors to participate as advisors, speakers, and mentors. Our corporate partners sponsor student case competitions as well as various networking and recruiting events that may be targeted toward specific student populations.

Case Competitions

Tepper School masters students host a number of case competitions throughout the year. Most weekends feature Tepper student teams presenting case solutions to a panel of judges from a sponsoring organization.

Case Competitions available for Corporate Sponsorship include:

Operations Club International Case Competition

Each year, the MBA School at Carnegie Mellon hosts an International Operations Case Competition. This year’s Competition is scheduled for November 9 and 10, 2007.

This weekend-long activity pits teams from 18 to 20 of the top MBA operations programs in the country against each other in an intense 21-hour competition and has become an important educational and networking tool for the schools involved.

The competition also presents an extraordinary opportunity for companies to meet talented MBA students from around the country. In a single weekend, underwriters can meet top operations students from 18 or more leading business schools, extensively observe their teamwork, preparation, presentation and analytical skills, and interact with students in an informal environment.

Qualified executives from sponsoring corporations may be invited to participate as judges. The competition also presents a unique opportunity to meet operations faculty. These relationships can be a valuable resource for future business.

Sponsoring companies also have the opportunity to participate in writing the business case based on a real time business problem.

Graduate Finance Association Corporate Finance Case Competition

Each year, the MBA School at Carnegie Mellon hosts the Corporate Finance Case Competition. The competition is held in February and 2007 marked the 15th annual competition.

This weekend activity pits teams from six to ten top business schools against each other in an intense weekend-long competition. MBA programs that sent teams in 2007 included: Duke’s Fuqua School, Cornell’s Johnson School, Northwestern’s Kellogg School, NYU’s Stern School, BYU’s Marriot School and Carnegie Mellon’s Tepper School of Business.

Objectives of the Corporate Finance Case Competition are to provide students an opportunity to expand their knowledge of financial management techniques as well as develop contacts with corporate supporters, faculty and students from leading finance programs. Past case topics have been related to valuation, M&A, bankruptcy, dividend policy and capital budgeting.

Friday Student Social Hours

At 5pm on most Friday afternoons, a bell sounds heralding the beginning of the Tepper tradition known as B**rs. Corporations that sponsor the Happy Hour food and drink may send representatives to interact with both first and second year students at these popular community-building events.
