Accounts and Passwords:

Your Andrew account is accessed with the ID that's assigned to you by Computing services. Your Andrew account provides you with professionally backed up storage accessible from any networked computer system. it also provides access to andrew network laser printers. Moreover, you can access electronic mail and bulletin boards for local, national and international communications. Your initial password is the first eight digits of your social security number (If you are an international student use the first eight digits of your student ID number). You can change this password in a variety of ways with the easiest being to go to http://www.cmu.edu/myandrew (see below). Be careful with your Andrew account password because if you forget it you must talk to the university to have it reset. The university, not the Tepper Computing Group, controls Andrew and all Andrew resources.

Andrew Windows password:

In order to maintain compatibility with the Microsoft Windows environment, CMU maintains what is called an "Active Directory."  The active directory uses the same Andrew ID, but a different password. In order to set your Active Directory password, go to www.cmu.edu/myandrew. On the left, look down until you see "Set my Windows Password."  Click on this link and follow the instructions to set your Windows password. Services where you need to set your Andrew Windows, or active directory password:  logging into the room 147 cluster, logging into the student Intranet, connecting to the P drive (edu1) and logging into the student services website to add/drop classes, fill out course evaluations, etc.

Accessing Andrew Services Off-Campus:

Some Andrew services, such as email, are available for off-campus use. To access these services, you will need some form of internet accessibility. This could be DSL, Cable, or even dial-up connections. Companies like Comcast, Verizon, EarthLink and many others offer internet connectivity solutions. Services, or guides to services, can be found at the MyAndrew page, located at http://www.cmu.edu/myandrew/, once connectivity is established.
