Process for Carnegie Mellon Students

The process listed on this page applies to Carnegie Mellon graduate students.

As a non-Tepper student, you can take a maximum of four Tepper courses throughout your academic career. The Tepper School of Business, Masters Programs requires that all non-Tepper students have advisor and faculty approval for all Tepper School courses. Please complete the following steps in this order so that your request is handled in a timely manner.

This is a request system. You are not enrolled until all four steps are completed.

The four step process

Step 1

Log your request for all interested courses. You can take up to two courses per mini and up to four courses throughout your academic career. Review the list of available courses; the courses listed are the only courses available to non-Tepper students.

Step 2

Your advisor will receive a link, where he/she can approve or deny your request. You can check the status of your request by logging in to the request system. If the course is visible, your advisor has not yet approved it. It is your responsibility to make sure that your request is approved by Tepper’s deadlines, which differ from the University’s.

Step 3

It is your responsibility to contact the faculty teaching each course to seek approval for registration to join the course. Once you have the faculty’s approval, you must forward the email to masters@andrew.cmu.edu

Step 4

After advisor and faculty approval have been received, you will be placed on the internal Tepper School roster or waitlist. You will receive an automatic email regarding your status.  About two business days after receiving the email from “add/drop”, check the SIO. If the course appears on the SIO, you are successfully registered. If you do not see the course after three business days, contact masters@andrew.cmu.edu.

Start with Step 1: Read the policy and log your request.
