Deloitte Partner Joy Evans on Diversity in Consulting

Joy Evans is a partner at Deloitte Consulting, and currently leads Deloitte's North East (USA) Oracle practice.

Joy held a captivating discussion on diversity in consulting. She helped us understand the pleasures and challenges of being a minority in the consulting world. She told us a story about how she handled a situation where a customer once mistook her for an administrative aid, and asked her to get him a cup of coffee. Joy simply introduced her self as a partner and facilitated getting the coffee for the gentleman, without taking his misassumption of her role personally.

She answered questions that the audience had, most of which were about how she managed her career as a woman in a demanding field. She gave us great tips and inspiration. Her audience included prospective students as well as first and second year MBA students and staff. She has also initiated a mentoring program with the women at Tepper.
