The Egon Balas Award for the Best Paper in Operations Research/Algorithms, Combinatorics and Optimization for 2013 was awarded to Selvaprabu Nadarajah. A faculty committee consisting of Professors Javier Peña, François Margot and Fatma Kilinç-Karzan chose Selva for his paper, “Computational Aspects of the Generalized Intersection Cut Generating Paradigm”.

The 2013 Alexander Henderson Award for Excellence in Economic Theory was awarded to Artem Neklyudov for his dissertation, "Three Essays in Financial Economics:  Securitizations Trading, Heterogeneous Dealers on Decentralized Over-the-counter Markets, and Strategic Information Acquisition with Overlaps". This year's Henderson committee was headed by Professor Finn Kydland, along with Profs. Isa Hafalir, Sevin Yeltekin and Brent Glover.

Four previous winners of the Henderson Award, including Professor Kydland, have gone on to earn the Nobel Prize in Economics.

The Gerald R. Salancik Doctoral Dissertation Award for 2013 was awarded to two students this year.  Ishani Aggarwal was chosen for her dissertation, "Cognitive Style Diversity in Teams", and Nazli Turan for her dissertation, "Your Cost or My Benefit:  Effects of Concession Presentation on Negotiation Processes and Outcomes".   Professors Linda Argote, Brandy Aven and Taya Cohen made up this year's Salancik committee.

OLIVER E. WILLLIAMSON, MSIA 1962, PhD 1963 (Advisor: Richard M. Cyert), Edgar F. Kaiser Professor Emeritus of Business, Economics and Law at UC Berkeley's Haas School of Business, was awarded the 2009 Nobel Prize in Economic Science "for his analysis of economic governance, especially the boundaries of the firm."  Prof. Williamson shares this year's prize with Elinor Ostrom of Indiana University.
