Cornerstones was founded in 2000 by Lucian Caste, an Emeritus Life Trustee of Carmegie Mellon University. Cornerstones is an integral part of theTepper School of Business, the Donald H. Jones Center for Entrepreneurship, and Carnegie Mellon University.
The Cornerstones membership is comprised of corporate CEOs, presidents, government leaders, venture capitalists, entrepreneurs, business leaders, faculty, students and organizations Involved in all aspects of the revitalization and sustainability of older cities and communities. Cornerstones’ is recognized as an effective regional, national and international organization that successfully generates and adds to the prosperous and sustainable future of communities.
Since the formation of Cornerstones in 2000, we have been associated with Carnegie Mellon University’s School of Architecture. During our formative years, this relationship proved to be worthwhile, particularly in the common areas of architecture, urban planning and scholarship. However, during this time the dynamics of Cornerstones have changed. We have added the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) as our partner (and other civic collaborators as well). Cornerstones has expanded its purview to include geo-economics, entrepreneurship, health care and the global “revolution."
Because of this more expansive view of Cornerstones’ mission and goals, Cornerstones' board of directors, with the consent of the president’s office and the School of Architecture, changed its affiliation from the School of Architecture to the Tepper School of Business. We look forward to the continuing progress and success of Cornerstones and its important contribution to Carnegie Mellon University, the Pittsburgh region and the global society.
