The Cornerstones annual symposium series began in 2001. These gatherings presented a learning and educational process relating to the complexities of urban problems and their relationship to the Pittsburgh region. Our program provided the attendees with a think-tank of local, national and international speakers who addressed the future of communities and the results of successful programs.
Beginning with Symposium 2009, Cornerstones will focus on a national audience. Hundreds of cities and communities throughout the world are attempting to address the problems of a decline in population, revenue, jobs, vacancies in commercial and industrial buildings and deteriorating residential neighborhoods. These cities and communities are looking for ideas and help.
Annually Cornerstones will bring together (for a two-day symposium and three annual workshops) speakers who have addressed these problems to present in detail what is required to accomplish results. A large part of the two-day symposium and the workshops will be sessions with the speakers to allow for dialog and answers of specific questions attendees have.
