What is the Jones Center MBA Entrepreneurship Track?
Tepper’s MBA Entrepreneurship Track allows Tepper MBA students to focus on planning, funding and building a new business. This Track emphasizes three main areas: marketing, building a winning organization, and raising money for a venture. Students in this Track can also become Swartz Entrepreneurial Fellows, which enables them to participate in an executive guest speaker, summer internship and final project program. Often, this final project results in an actual venture that students pursue after graduation.

What is the James R. Swartz Entrepreneurial Leadership Series?
This Series provides a forum for the Tepper School, Carnegie Mellon University community and its entrepreneurial network partners in Pittsburgh to discuss issues central to entrepreneurial leadership. The series brings to campus entrepreneurial experts from around the country to exchange views on leadership, entrepreneurship and innovation in today’s competitive, global economy.

What programs does the Jones Center offer for local entrepreneurs who are not enrolled at Carnegie Mellon?
The Jones Center offers two non-credit, certificate programs designed to assist local entrepreneurs with running a company (Entrepreneurial Leadership Forum) or acquiring a company (Entrepreneurship Through Small Business Acquisition Forum). The programs run only once a year and start in November, and each forum meets once a month for eight months.

Can a student get involved with the Jones Center in addition to taking courses?
First-year MBA students who have a strong desire to pursue entrepreneurship as a career choice can apply to become a Swartz Entrepreneurial Fellows student. These students take a concentration of entrepreneurship courses, serve an internship with an entrepreneurial venture before their second year at Tepper, and take part in a capstone project during their second academic year. Fellows students also help organize the Swartz lectures and can volunteer during the annual McGinnis Venture Competition.

What is the McGinnis Venture Competition?
The McGinnis Venture Competition is hosted by the Jones Center every year. It is an intercollegiate business plan competition for MBA and graduate-level students who are pursuing emerging companies in the technology or life science arenas. The competition also offers a sustainable technology prize to the venture that best utilizes renewable resources. Please visit the McGinnis Venture Competition site for information, rules and registration procedures for the competition.
