KimDavidBio

David Kim graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Illinois at Springfield with a BA in Mathematical Sciences. He has over 10 years of experience in the financial markets. David started as a retail stockbroker and worked as a buy side trader and Nasdaq market maker for small cap stocks. He was an option specialist for Motorola (top tier volume name) on the Philadelphia Stock Exchange (PHLX) for TFM Investment Group.  He was an equity derivative sector co-manager for Goldman Sachs (Spear-Hull Derivatives), coordinating volatility trading in health care stocks, pharmaceuticals and medical devices while also making markets for single stock futures on One Chicago. He was an International Securities Exchange (ISE) Primary and Competitive Market Maker. At McGowan Investors, David was a Chicago Board Options Exchange (CBOE) market maker in the IBM, Yahoo and Bristol Myers pits while covering retail, gold/silver mining stocks, oil refiners and the casino/gaming sectors on the CBOE electronic platform. David looks forward to continuing his career as a trader. In his spare time he enjoys running, weight training and swimming.

TaeHong Kim received his BS and MS degrees in Industrial Engineering from Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology. In graduate school, he studied scheduling problems that arose from the semi-conductor manufacturing industry. After graduation, he worked as a researcher at Korea Institute for Defense Analyses, a government-funded research facility, where he conducted quantitative analysis on various military tactics and weapon system effectiveness using simulations. Upon completion of MSCF program, he plans to utilize his proficiency in quantitative techniques and open-ended problem solving skills in finance by pursuing a career in structured products trading.

Andy Kirou grew up in Brussels, Belgium, the heart of Europe. Seeking to expand his horizons, Andy enrolled at the University of Miami where he graduated Summa Cum Laude with a degree in Physics and Mathematics. While at the University of Miami, Andy became involved in complex systems research and its applications to financial markets. This inspired Andy to join the Computational Finance Program to develop an advanced skill set in finance, mathematics, and programming. In his free time, Andy enjoys playing tennis and watching Miami Heat basketball.

Xiang Li earned his BS in Physics from Nanjing University in China and his MS in Physics and Mathematics (Statistics concentration) from the University of Illinois at Chicago. The study of Physics allowed him to apply a quantitative theory into a subject he was passionate about – Finance. The idea of taking theories in Physics and applying the quantitative knowledge into real world experimentation in the derivatives markets is his central focus.To gain industry experience, he worked as an intern at China International Futures Co. (Shanghai) in 2006 where he researched equity index futures. He also worked as a commodity futures broker trainee in Chicago in 2008, where he worked closely with brokers and traders. Xiang entered the MSCF program to leverage his quantitative and programming skills and his market knowledge into commercial value. Xiang enjoys studying derivative pricing and trading. Xiang also has a black belt in Taekwondo, he established a student Taekwondo club and was awarded a Distinguished Student Leader of Jiangsu for his service in student activities.

Lawrence Lin studied at the University of Pennsylvania, receiving MSE and BSE degrees in Computer Science, along with a second undergraduate major in Mathematics. Upon graduation in 2003, he joined Credit Suisse as a Technical Associate, developing a web application to manage risk on corporate loan portfolios. After three years, Larry joined Deutsche Bank, performing collateral analysis on pools of Alt-A mortgages for the purchase of whole loans and the sale of residential mortgage-backed securities. His experience also includes spending the better part of a year playing poker professionally before entering the MSCF program. With an interest in derivatives, Larry plans to pursue a career in trading at an investment bank. In his free time, he enjoys poker, skiing, and watching sports.

Noemi Soledad Lopez holds a BS and Masters degree in Economics from Universidad de San Andres in Argentina. Prior to joining the MSCF program, Soledad worked as a Consultant at the World Bank headquarters in Washington DC where she was part of the Finance Research Group.  During her two-year appointment Soledad was deeply involved in projects related to the development of financial services in emerging markets. She conducted econometric analysis, developed statistical models and performed comprehensive research on the behavior of foreign banks during financial crises. Upon graduation from the MSCF program, Soledad would like to apply her knowledge of financial engineering and work experience in a strategy or quantitative research position.

TingTing Lu graduated in 2007 from Cornell University, where he earned two Bachelor's degrees in Mathematics and Economics. During his undergraduate studies, he interned at QVT Financial, a multi strategy hedge fund, working on various projects such as valuation models of international shipping companies. TingTing joined the MSCF program to further develop his analytical and quantitative skills in its application to the finance industry. Upon graduation, he would like to pursue a career in quantitative trading or portfolio management. In his spare time, TingTing enjoys basketball, chess, and bridge.

Borzu Masoudi graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Finance from the Carlson School of Management at the University of Minnesota. Afterwards, he joined ING Investment Management where he started in the Private Placements group and learned the fundamentals of credit risk. After attaining his CFA charter, he took a keener interest in quantitative finance and joined the Quantitative Credit Risk Management group where he worked with the Moody’s KMV portfolio default correlation model. Finally, he joined the Mortgage Derivative group within ING where he worked in analytics. His professional goal is to work with structured derivatives; the MSCF program was the logical next step in developing the necessary quantitative skills. During the summer, Borzu will be in London interning with Deutsche Bank Global Markets.

 NieShouhuaBio

Shouhua Nie holds a Ph.D. in Physics from Florida State University and a Bachelor's degree in Physics from Fudan University. During his Ph.D. studies, Shouhua focused on the experimental study of ultrafast laser-metal interactions and has had extensive experience in mathematical modeling and data analysis. Shouhua has published 8 peer-reviewed journal papers and has given numerous professional presentations. Upon completing the MSCF program, Shouhua plans to apply his quantitative skills and research experience to pursue a career in quantitative research or trading strategies. In his spare time, Shouhua enjoys playing basketball, watching sports on TV and traveling.
