Lu

Pinchao (Jason) Lu holds a Master's degree in Computer Science from University of Virginia and a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science from University of Science and Technology of China (USTC). Prior to joining the MSCF program, he worked as a senior trading system developer at SAC Capital Advisors, a prominent multi-strategy hedge fund in southern Connecticut. During his time at SAC, Jason designed and implemented a number of highly specialized trading applications and automated trading systems. Jason is spending the summer at UBS Investment Bank, where he will be joining their Sales & Trading Summer Rotational Program.Upon graduation, Jason would like to pursue a career in quantitative trading and research. In his free time, he enjoys reading, travelling and tennis.

Alexander Makarovski holds an undergraduate Physics degree from Belarusian State University and a Ph.D. Physics degree from Duke University. After graduating from Duke in May 2006, Alexander worked there as a university post doctoral research associate. His graduate and post-graduate research was focused on the experimental study of electron transport in novel nanomaterials. Driven by his interest in financial markets, Alexander joined Carnegie Mellon's MSCF program to learn how to apply his quantitative skills to develop profitable investment strategies. Alexander will gain practical finance experience during his summer internship with Asset Management Division of Deutsche Bank. In his spare time, Alexander enjoys participating in outdoor sports, traveling and studying history. MAKAROVSKI

Mehl

David Mehl was born and raised in the illustrious and exotic metropolis that is Erie, Pennsylvania. At the tender age of 19 Dave escaped Erie and moved to Boston in order to attend Boston College where he began to study physics. Seeking greater excitement, Dave wandered one day to the economics building. Although he did not find true love, he did discover that money was pretty interesting. Through the combination of hard work and dazzling charisma, Dave graduated Boston College with degrees in both physics and economics. Dave accepted a much sought after position as a boat captain in Maine for the summer of 2003 and, in the tradition of many boat captains before him, became a technology consultant at Accenture Ltd. While consulting at clients such as Fidelity Investments, Dave decided to pursue a career in securities trading. Currently pursuing the dual MBA/MSCF degree at the Tepper School of Business, Dave will spend the summer as an intern on Merrill Lynch’s trading desk in New York. While there, Dave hopes to maintain a low profile as an avid Red Sox fan.


Mingming Miao graduated with honors from the University of Science and Technology of China with a dual degree consisting of a B.S. in Biological Sciences and a B.E. of Computer Application. After one year of work in a start-up IT company in China, he joined Boston University where he earned his Ph.D. degree in Biomedical Engineering. His doctoral research focused on developing models for signal transduction pathways in human red blood cells, During his graduate study, Miao built up his quantitative and computational skills through extensive modeling and experimental-data analysis. Upon completion of the MSCF program, Mingming plans to apply his engineering background to pursue a career in fixed income derivatives and quantitative/algorithmic trading. His hobbies include traveling, reading, Chinese cuisine and sports, especially ping pong, martial arts and swimming.

Mishra Anup Mishra graduated with a Masters in Physics from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur, India. Over the next five years, he pursued a doctoral degree in Condensed Matter Physics at the University of Cincinnati. Anup's doctoral project involved transition metal oxides. He furthered his research as a postdoctoral fellow at the Max-Plank Institute for Solid State Research in Stuttgart. Since joining the MSCF program, Anup has found several of the skills and abilities he had developed as a physicist were directly applicable to structuring complex financial products. Anup plans to pursue a career in derivatives trading. He is spending the summer at Deutsche Bank, London ,where he will be interning as an Associate with the Global Markets Division.

Sebastian Rojas Moreno was born in Colombia where he received his BS in Industrial Engineering degree from Los Andes University in Bogotá. Before joining Tepper, he worked for five years at the Central Bank of Colombia in the Foreign Exchange Reserves management area. For two years, he was part of the Risk Management group where he developed different methodologies for controlling and monitoring credit, market and operational risks inside the department. After this, Sebastian joined the Research & Development group where he, among others, created a methodology based on genetic algorithms and stochastic analysis to improve the investment benchmark selection process.  This model is currently used by the Foreign Exchange Reserves department as part of the asset allocation process. Sebastian joined the dual MBA/MSCF program in August 2007. He spends his spare time playing golf, working out, and hanging out with his girlfriend and friends. rojas

Nam Wooyun (Sean) Nam studied economics at the University of Chicago for his undergraduate degree. Upon graduating with honors in 2005, Sean joined Citadel Investment Group LLC as a data analyst. At Citadel, he was exposed to equity and equity derivative trading while he supported the 'Global Equities Group' and 'Citadel Execution Services,' helping them analyze complex market data and implement trading strategies. Additionally, he coordinated various projects to expand the portfolio and improve the reference database system. While in the MSCF program, Sean has enjoyed learning about model-driven trading strategies and simulation techniques that he can apply to dynamic market environments. For the coming summer, he will spend his internship at Macquarie Group Commodity and Energy desk in their New York office. In his personal time, he enjoys playing racquetball, running and reading.

Wenjun Pan received a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science with honors from the University of Waterloo. In his senior year, Wenjun spent two internships at Scotia Capital in Toronto. During his time at Scotia Capital, Wenjun worked on the company’s first algorithmic trading system to facilitate block trading and built an energy derivatives database application to automate daily risk and analytic processes. He joined the MSCF program to gain additional training in advanced financial mathematics and statistical models. This summer, Wenjun will be joining the Global Markets Rotational Program at Deutsche Bank Securities in New York. In his spare time, Wenjun enjoys squash, fencing, and classical music.

Pan Wenjun

Patel M Mehul Patel graduated from Rutgers University where he received a BS in Computer Engineering and a minor in Economics. Mehul has worked as a senior associate at PricewaterhouseCoopers where he utilized his technical background and developed database driven solutions to support client litigations. Mehul worked in a broad range of regulatory affairs including revenue restatements, financial statement fraud, anti-trust matters, and anti-money laundering cases, receiving awards for excellence in client services. Mehul currently serves as one of the leaders of the MSCF Quantitative Finance Club. Upon completion of the MSCF program, Mehul looks forward to utilizing his quantitative skills and work experience to focus on structuring or trading at an investment bank. In his free time, Mehul enjoys traveling, dancing, listening to music, and watching football.

Niral Patel graduated from North Carolina State University in 2001 with BS degrees in Computer and Electrical Engineering and a minor in Accounting. He joined the SAS Institute during his sophomore year in college, working as a systems administrator. After working full time for two years, Niral’s interest in Capital Markets led him to explore a master’s degree in quantitative finance. He joined the Master of Science in Computational Finance program to develop an advanced skill set in finance and mathematics to complement his technical and quantitative skills.  Upon completion of the program, Niral plans to pursue a career in derivatives trading.
