| Darren Pennington graduated Summa Cum laude from Robert Morris University with a BSBA in Finance and Economics and a minor in Mathematics. Prior to pursuing his Bachelors, he raced rally cars in the southwest United States. During his last two years at Robert Morris, Darren joined Legend Financial Advisors as a Finance Intern, with the ultimate goal of one day working in the capital markets. While at Legend, Darren was involved in researching and presenting stocks for the firm’s equity strategy, analyzing investment strategies, and compiling due diligence on alterative investments for client portfolios. Leveraging his investment experience with the quantitative finance skills of the MSCF program, Darren looks forward to applying his skills in the financial services industry. |

Tian Qin was trained in mental arithmetic as a youngster. He credits that experience for his strong aptitude for quantitative methods which eventually led him to a degree in Industrial Engineering from the National University of Singapore in 2007. As part of his academic studies, he completed a co-op experience with JPMorgan Chase as a Technology Analyst in his senior year. As a Technology Analyst, Tian supported pricing applications on interest rate options, swaps and exotic products. With his background in mathematics, computing and decision analysis, he joined the MSCF program at Carnegie Mellon to transition into a career in the financial markets. His hobbies include five-in-row and soccer. |

Peng Qu holds a PhD in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from Hong Kong University and a Master's and a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from Tsinghua University. Before joining the MSCF program, Peng was a postdoctoral research fellow at Johns Hopkins University conducting research in Magnetic Resonance Imaging and Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy. Peng has published 13 peer-reviewed journal papers and more than 30 conference papers. Additionally, he has extensive research experience in data analysis and data processing. Peng will be joining Deutsche Bank Global Markets (London) as a summer associate. Upon completing the program, Peng plans to apply his quantitative skills and research experience derivatives trading, quantitative research or structured finance at an investment bank or a hedge fund. During his spare time, Peng enjoys Go, movies and traveling. |
| Vikram Reddy graduated with a bachelor's degree in biological sciences from The University of Chicago in 2000. He joined the Hull Group, a market making group within Goldman Sachs with whom he spent time in both Chicago and New York. Vikram traded index volatility and was a specialist in the oil services book on the floor of the American Stock Exchange. He then went to a small independent market making firm in 2005. Following his time there, he received a master's in operations research within the Department of Applied Mathematics at Florida Tech. Vikram enjoys the great outdoors and is an avid fisherman. After graduation, he would like to work in trading again and focus on exotics within a global macro setting. |
| Nick Ruggio graduated from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, where he received a BS in Information Technology and Finance after which he worked in Global Markets Technology at Bank of America for a year and half. While working on the Interest Rate Derivatives trading floor, he leveraged his technology background to support, enhance and build new applications for the Swaps, Treasury, and Futures traders and sales desks. Nick implemented many new models in Excel/VBA including a Eurodollars TED Spread pricing spreadsheet and an Excel Add-in allowing the Swaps traders to display and analyze proprietary swap curves. He came to the MSCF program to gain intuition and a deeper understanding of the mathematics behind many of the pricing tools and models to which he was exposed during his time on the trading floor. Upon graduation from the MSCF program, Nick hopes to gain experience in Risk Management in financial services. In his free time Nick enjoys going out with friends, playing soccer, and traveling. |
| Hefei Shi received his Master's degree in Physics from Case Western Reserve University, and his Bachelor's degree in Geophysics from the University of Science and Technology of China. Before joining the MSCF program, Hefei worked as research assistant at CWRU, where he conducted research in charge transport of organic materials and organic photonic crystals. Hefeii has extensive experience in developing models, analyzing data and running simulations. He will join the Global Markets Division of Bank of New York Mellon as a summer intern in derivatives pricing. Upon completing the MSCF program, Hefei plans a career in trading or research. In his spare time, he enjoys outdoor sports, travelling and watching movies. |
| Luliang Song earned a BS in Electronic Engineering, starting his career as an electronic engineer at a multinational company in Japan, where he was actively involved in the research and development of innovative video equipment, including the first generation PDPs and Internet TVs. After that, Luliang became a manager for InfoChina, a leading IT solutions provider for Chinese financial institutions where he developed a strong interest in financial markets and earned his MBA in finance from Peking University. Luliang came to the US in 2005 and enrolled in a Ph.D. program in Finance, receiving rigorous training in conducting academic research with broad exposure to classic financial theories and statistical analysis tools. Upon completion of the MSCF degree, Luliang plans a career as a quantitative trader or strategist in a global investment bank. In his spare time, Luliang enjoys chess, hiking and movies. |
| Dennis Stakhov completed his B.A in Mathematics with honors from Hunter College in New York. Having obtained the Series 7 and Series 55 licenses, he combined his passion for the securities markets and technical acumen to create and trade automated equities trading strategies. With real-world experience in programming and trading, and the rigorous training provided by the MSCF program, Dennis plans to pursue a career in proprietary trading. A native New Yorker, Dennis enjoys exploring the sights, sounds, and culture of his city. |
| Dan Su earned his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Delaware. During his Ph.D. study, Dan gave numerous professional presentations and published papers in several top-tier engineering journals. He also received the Roy L. McCullough Scholars Award for his original contributions to the literature on composite materials. Dan has extensive experience in mathematical modeling, data analysis, and numerical simulations. He was drawn to MSCF program because of his strong interest in quantitative finance. During this summer, Dan will join the Quantitative Center of Excellence group at Standard & Poor's as an associate intern where he will work on the Market Derived Ratings project. In his spare time, Dan enjoys traveling, reading science fiction books, and watching TV. |
| Ferenc Szalma did his PhD in physics from the University of Szeged, Hungary. In his thesis, he applied advanced Monte Carlo simulations to phase transitions in spin systems. Following his Ph.D, Ferenc pursued research at the Aachen Technical University, Germany and the University of Maryland in computational statistical physics and nano-physics. His publications on the stochastic evolution of metal and semiconductor surface nano-structures appeared in top-tier physics journals. Ferenc believes that the MSCF program will help him combine his quantitative background with his interest in finance and gain deeper understanding of application of complex quantitative strategies such as tranching and valuing credit default swap baskets and correlation trading using advanced computer simulation techniques. In his spare time, Ferenc enjoys skiing, hiking as well as salsa dancing. |
