tang xiao Xiao Tang graduated from Guangdong University of Foreign Studies, where he obtained his Bachelor degree in Economics. During his undergraduate studies, Xiao interned in financial services firms specializing in Sales and Trading. During the summer of 2006, he worked in the Strategic Solutions Group at Merrill Lynch, advising institutional clients on asset-liability management. There he worked on doing simulation with presupposed correlation properties and modeling typical changes of the swap curve. Xiao enjoys studying advanced pricing theory and quantitative techniques. Upon graduating from the MSCF program, Xiao wants to pursue a career in derivatives trading. In his spare time, Xiao enjoys playing tennis, E-sports, and watching movies.

Yuan-Min Tang graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from the University of Michigan. At UM, he was placed fifth in a field of 128 teams from other universities in the annual ACM Collegiate Programming Contest. Prior to joining the MSCF program, Yuan-Min worked as an analyst at Capital One, where he evaluated the effectiveness of credit card product offerings by using data mining techniques and managed risk management reporting processes. Upon completing the MSCF program, Yuan-Min plans to apply the quantitative finance skills acquired in the areas of financial modeling and quantitative trading strategies. In his spare time, he enjoys tennis and listening to music.

tufo Jason Tufo earned his bachelor's degree in Computer Science from Stanford University. In addition, he obtained a JD from Cornell Law School and subsequently worked as a patent attorney at a law firm in New York City where he prosecuted and litigated electronics and software patents. Capitalizing upon his computer software background, Jason entered Carnegie Mellon's MS in Computational Finance program to prepare himself for a career in financial services.
This summer, Jason will be interning at Deutsche Bank where he will rotate through various trading desks. In his spare time, Jason enjoys weightlifting, watching movies and dining with his wife, traveling, and listening to music.

Murat Uysal graduated with Honors from Middle East Technical University, Turkey, where he received his BS in Computer Engineering. Murat worked as a lead software engineer at Mortgage Coach where he helped maintain and create a new mortgage analytics platform. In addition to building prepayment and curtailment models, he also improved efficiency of the software development process and mentored junior developers. Currently, Murat is interning at BlackRock, working on model development and validation framework. Upon completion of MSCF program, Murat plans a career in derivatives trading. In his spare time, Murat enjoys playing soccer, board games and traveling. uysal

vijverberg Andrea Vijverberg graduated from Pomona College with a double major in Applied Mathematics and Economics. She further developed her quantitative and programming skills through two summers of research in economics and biostatistics. In her Senior research project for the Economics major, she combined the techniques of her Math Senior Thesis with Finance to develop an investment strategy that uses clustering methods to create a diverse portfolio. The strategy outperformed a benchmark index over a period of fifteen years. Andrea also interned at Gould Asset Management, where she evaluated after-tax returns of a portfolio, the portfolio managers often modifying their strategies on the basis of her research. Upon completion of the MSCF program, Andrea plans a career in strategy or quantitative research. Her interests include running, hiking, music and trying new foods.

Ben Wahlstrand graduated with honors from Stanford University with a BS in Biological Sciences and minors in Computer Science and Chemistry. While at Stanford, Ben co-authored two papers that were published in peer reviewed biochemistry journals. He worked as a software engineer for Zing, an internet photo services startup, and later for Sony's ImageStation photo service, later joining MRPath, a small biotech company, where he developed their software infrastructure for processing high-resolution MRI images and the search engine for their VoxPort application. Ben applied to the MSCF program to learn how to apply his software and analytical skills in the world of quantitative finance. He is looking forward to a role in systematic trading or pricing and analytics. Ben enjoys outdoor activities including backpacking and cross-country skiing. wahlstrand

Alan Walsh graduated from Swarthmore College with Honors Majors in Mathematics and Economics. His Honors preparations were in Mathematical Statistics, Real Analysis, Modern Algebra and Financial Economics. In addition, Alan competed four years as a member of the varsity basketball team. Alan has worked at Scotia Capital in the Financial Engineering Group and at Maple Financial Group on the Stock Lending Desk. After graduating from the MSCF program, Alan hopes to continue working either as a trader or in financial engineering. Alan's extracurricular interests include the Carnegie Mellon club volleyball team, representing Tepper at MBA athletic tournaments, and playing the guitar.

Carrie Wan received her undergraduate degree with honors from University of International Business and Economics, China. While a student there, she studied Financial Economics and completed two internships at Monitor Group and Roland Berger Strategy Consultants at which she was involved with developing market growth and expansion strategies for financial service companies.  Upon completing the MSCF program, Carrie would like to pursue a career in currency trading. This summer, she will be joining Barclays Capital Foreign Exchange Trading group in Tokyo. In her spare time, Carrie enjoys salsa dancing and jazz music. wan carrie

wan Y

Yiping Wan received her BS in Acoustics from Nanjing University, China in 2005. Yiping worked for two years as a software engineer for Hewlett-Packard Global Development Software Center in Shanghai in the data warehousing group where she developed and supported HP supply chain infrastructure. Yiping saw a specific niche of opportunities for engineering students with a keen interest in fixed income, equity derivatives and program trading and has joined to MSCF program to make the transition. Yiping enjoys traveling, badminton and movies.

Hailong Wang received his BS in Physics from Nanjing University in China and his MS in statistics from Purdue University. During his two years at Purdue, he participated in the Indiana Entrepreneurial program, which provides human capital for Indiana startups. He also held various positions, including: marketing director for an RFID consulting company and research analyst for a transportation safety center which provides consulting for government and businesses in Indiana.  Before joining the MSCF program, he was forecaster for a national leading retail power trading company, establishing a new weather-based forecasting system for the company and interacting daily with traders, portfolio managers and IT staff.
Hailong joined the MSCF program to further develop his analytical and quantitative skills. He is currently a FRM candidate. He plans on pursuing a career in the financial services industry, focusing on structuring and risk management. In his spare time, Hailong enjoys music, reading, cooking for his wife, and playing with his 2-year old son.
