Welcome to the Carnegie Mellon Undergraduate Economics Program. Carnegie Mellon University enjoys a rich history of innovative research and instruction in the field of Economics. By bringing together rigorous theoretical and empirical work, the University supports some of the very best research in Economics. Six of our past and present faculty have been awarded the Nobel Prize in Economics.

The Undergraduate Economics Program offers a range of degrees in Economics designed to develop strong analytical skills and a solid foundation in the discipline of Economics. In the classroom, we bring the same rigorous, innovative approach to enable our students to develop their talents and realize their potential. Our students also benefit from a strong culture of interdisciplinary collaboration and exposure to a broad range of research.

The resulting program provides a unique experience and strong placements both in the job market and graduate schools.

Undergraduate Economics:
Spanning Two Colleges

In the Fall of 2005, as a result of a collaborative effort between the College of Humanities and Social Sciences and the Tepper School of Business, the Undergraduate Economics Program announced several important and exciting changes designed to further improve the needs of Economics majors, additional majors, and minors.

Key among these changes was that the Bachelor of Science in Economics would henceforth be jointly awarded by the Tepper School of Business and the College of Humanities and Social Sciences. All students whose primary major is Economics became students of both Tepper and H&SS, reflecting a strong desire that economics majors enjoy the full array of services and support of both schools.

Students wishing to major in Economics should apply to the University through H&SS. Click here for more information about Carnegie Mellon Undergraduate Admissions.
