Omicron Delta Epsilon

In 1969, a Carnegie Mellon University chapter was admitted to Omicron Delta Epsilon, the International Honor Society in Economics. As written in it's philosophy statement, "Omicron Delta Epsilon is dedicated to the encouragement of excellence in economics. It encourages devotion on the part of its members as economists to the advancement of their science and to the scholarly effort to make freedom from want and deprivation a reality for all mankind."  Our chapter sponsors a range of social, intellectual and meta-curricular activities in an effort to foster closer ties between students and faculty, as well as recognize and promote achievement in economics at Carnegie Mellon.

Each year outstanding junior and senior undergraduates are nominated by the Undergraduate Economics Program Administration to Omicron Delta Epsilon.

Nomination by the UEP is based on academic performance in economics courses. Seniors must have at least a 3.5 cumulative QPA and at least a 3.5 QPA within the Economics curriculum by the end of their seventh semester. Juniors must have at least a 3.7 cumulative QPA and at least a 3.7 QPA within the Economics curriculum. All nominees must have completed the introductory core series of economics theory courses, including Principles of Economics, Microeconomics, and Macroeconomics, as well as their accompanying mathematics and probability/statistics courses. ODE Nomination is reserved for students pursuing a B.A. in Economics, a B.S. in Economics, a BS. in Economics and Statistics, a B.S. in Economics and Mathematical Sciences, and begining in AY2009-10, students who are pursuing an additional major in Economics will also be considered.
